An Appeal from Antonio Lisboa, Secretary of International Relations – CUT Brazil
We are experiencing a critical situation in Brazil with the worsening process of the coup and attacks on democracy. In recent days, the Brazilian judicial system has taken unconstitutional measures by allowing and requesting the arrest of President Lula, which should occur today, even before the end of the trials.
We ask for international support and solidarity with acts, photos, videos, letters, messages to Brazilian embassies, etc., at this crucial moment for Brazilian democracy. In addition, we ask you to send information and records of solidarity actions so that we can use and publish:
Union solidarity democratic regards,
Antonio Lisboa, Secretary of International Relations – CUT Brazil
Statement of Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA), Victor Baez, Appeals to
The TUCA condemns the term of imprisonment of the Brazilian former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
We, from the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas – TUCA, protests strongly against the term of imprisonment of the Brazilian former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
We call the American trade union movement to manifest against this arbitrary arrest. Shortly, the TUCA will call, in the landmark of existing protests, demonstrations in the Brazilian embassies. This same day, in coordination with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), will be transformed into the International Demonstration Day against the arrest of President Lula.
In Summit of the Americas’ context, which will be held in Lima between April 13th and 17th, we will denounce, jointly with the union movement, this antidemocratic act and call the Peruvian and international social movements to prepare a huge demonstration against Lula’s arrest. Furthermore, we propose to the People’s Summit, carried in parallel to the official summit, to manifest against Lula’s detention.
The TUCA, as part of the International Committee for Solidarity with Lula, convoke our affiliates to promote the creation of national committees and to adopt a position contrary to this unjust imprisonment.
From TUCA, we consider the arrest of President Lula as a POLITICAL arrest and we join the scream of the Brazilian people that ask for Lula’s freedom.
Víctor Báez, General Secretary of TUCA
